Thank you for your message. According to WHO criteria, the criteria of severe malaria for epidemiological purposes would be defined as shown in “World Health Organization (WHO). Guidelines for the treatment of malaria, 3rd ed, page 71-72, 2015 [cited 2023 July 24]. Available from: URL: https://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/handle/10665/162441/9789241549127_eng.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y”
Severe malaria could be occurred in all Plasmodium spps. However, the most serious species would be P. falciparum.

I just wondering, what is the most common malaria complication? Is it depend on the species of Plasmodium?
