Course Description
Applied medical statistics; foundation of medical statistics; probabilities, Hypothesis testing; statistical program STATA, and statistical tests in epidemiological studies; Chi-square test, logistic regression model, t-test and Linear regression model
Course Goals
The course goal is to improve statistical and analytical skills of students.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the student should be able to
1. To explain the concept and methodology of epidemiology; particularly for tropical infections diseases
2. To demonstrate calculation and translation of epidemiological parameters such as prevalence and incidence, analytical outputs and statistical pamameters; particularly for those having an impact to health system
3. To explain the cause and impact of bias and confounding factors in research, and explain how to avoid and take account of bias and confounding factors
4. To demonstrate calculation and tranlation of risk factors and size of effects in multiple types of research study designs
5. To explain the causal relationship and association between dependent factors and independent factors in multiple types of research study designs
6. To demonstrateand stimulate practice onhow to find additional information and publications
7. To demonstrate and stimulate discussion on how to critically appraiseresearch publications; particularly in the part of study design and statistical analysis
