Course Goals
The participants will learn and apply knowledge of statistical methods and their application for clinical
research consisting of basic concepts with practical examples from clinical research. Statistical methods for assessing both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics for assessing role of chance or error from sampling. Correlation, linear regression, survival analysis and sample size estimation also included. Practical uses in data entry and analysis of various types of variables using appropriate statistical software packages as well as interpretation of the results and data presentation. At the end of this
course, they would be able to perform data analysis as well as data interpretation in a clinical research
Course Objectives
Students should acquire knowledge in statistics for clinical research. This course intends to provide the
knowledge on:
1. A High Moral Standard and Ethics: Possess academic and professional ethics; be able to have personal responsibility and moral reasoning to adjust for working as a team both as leader or follower and work effectively with others as well as be able to guide the others ethically with integrity.
2. Knowledge and intellectual skills: Be knowledgeable in the contents of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics by using computer software program such as Excel and SPSS and other statistics
software programs.
3. Interpersonal Relationship Skills and Responsibility: Be responsible for both individual task and
group assignment. The students be able to work with others well both as the leader and as a
member of the group.
4. Analytical Skills, Communication and Information Technology: Be able to choose an appropriate
computer software to analyze and conclude statistical information and present the situation of
the problems or the result of the clinical study to the others.
Course-level Learning Outcomes: CLOs
At the end of this course, the students will be able to perform in the following areas of performance
CLO1: Generalized statistics concept for clinical research based on statistical methodology e.g.,
descriptive statistics and inferential statistics
CLO2: Perform data entry and data analysis using appropriate statistical software according variable types and data distribution
CLO3: Demonstrate statistical analysis for clinical research with data entry, analysis and interpretation results
