-The difference between hard tick and soft tick is scutum(hard plate on the back of the body; dorsal shield). In hard tick has scutum but soft tick lack scutum. Another can use is mouthpart. For hard tick has mouthpart protruding anteriorly but soft tick has mouthpart lied ventrally hidden by the body.
-The differentiate between male and female of hard tick is long of the scutum if the scutum cover whole body it mean male but for female has the scutum cover 1/3 of the body.
Question 3: Please describe how you characterize the mites (at least two groups)
Answers:
Mites are arthropods in Arachnida class and Acari subclass. Adults and nymph stage have 8 legs(4 pairs) for larval have 6 legs. Mites is ectoparasite that can be vector of disease and producers of allergens. It’s cause 2 group of disease and vector of rickettsia.
Frist, mites as cause of disease such as house dust mites (Dermotophagoides spp.) are tiny creatures. The house dust mite gets its name from its habitat-household dust. It has been associated with a range of respiratory and dermatological allergies. The characterize of house dust mites have cuticle finely or coarsely wrinkle for male genital organ located between last 2 pairs legs and the anus sucker ventral. For female genital organ vulva has reverse Y or V shape and anus ventral. Another group, mites as vector of rickettsia scrub typhus by chigger mite (Trombiculid mite) is a vector carry Orientia tsutsugamushi. Several species of Trombiculidae in their larva stage bite their animal or human host and by embedding their mouthparts into the skin cause “intense irritation” or “a wheal, usually with severe itching and dermatitis”. The characterize of chigger mites in larva stage have 6 legs. Chelicerae have 2 segments, palpi have 5 segments and have strong hair at body and legs.
